Amergis Bolsters Mental Health Support for Students in Florida School District
Every day the team at Amergis Educational Staffing takes steps to ensure we are creating the best possible experience for the clients, professionals, and communities we serve. As part of that effort, Amergis has dedicated itself to providing our communities with resources that can help them tackle any obstacles they face, including the growing nationwide mental health crisis. As the prevalence of mental health related challenges has grown, so has the awareness around how to support those who are impacted, with one method being increasing access to mental health services for people of all ages, including students. That is where Amergis was proud to step in and help one local community in Florida.
The Amergis team was recently highlighted by a local news station for partnering with the Collier County Public School District (CCPS) to get their students diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or behavioral difficulties extra help at school. To accomplish this, the school district contracted Amergis at the beginning of the school year to provide consenting students and parents in their district with School Intervention Therapist (SIT) services, which include working with students who have mental health or behavioral challenges to identify their needs, develop intervention plans, and ensure that those plans are effectively implemented.
“We don’t do family therapy. We’re not having mom and dad come in with their child and working through issues like that. It’s really, the goal is so much different because the goal isn’t to fix a child, for lack of a better word. It’s to help them pursue their academic potential,” Rick Duggan, Executive Director of Exceptional Student Education at CCPS, tells FOX 4 Now.
The program was so successful that the school district voted to increase its budget by over 70%, and keep that budget increase in place through the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
